Wildfire football moves final home game to Monday

The Mott-Regent/New England Wildfire will play its final home contest of the season Monday afternoon when the team hosts the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter Imperials in a 5 p.m. contest in Mott. It will also be senior night for the Wildfire.

The Imperials will be trying to break a four-game losing streak.

The team lost to Beach a week ago by a 32-6 margin.

They have also lost to Grant County/Flasher in the season opener (30-24), then beat Strasburg/Zeeland (36-6), followed by a string of four losses to South Border (22-6), Kidder County (50-0), Linton/HMB(36) and the loss to Beach.

While the Imperials will be looking for their second win of the season, the Wildfire will be looking for a third win Friday.

The Wildfire is coming off a 50-8 loss to the unbeaten Linton/HMB Lions on the road a week ago.

The Lions lead the region standings with a perfect 6-0 record and also are 6-0 for the season.Grant County/Flasher and Kidder County are tied for second place in the standings at 5-1, with Beach in fourth, a half-game back (5-2).

The South Border Mustangs, the team which edged the Wildfire by a narrow 22-20 score earlier in the season, are just one game ahead of the Mott-Regent/New England in the standings.

The Wildfire will travel to Beach to close out the regular season Oct. 19 with a 1 p.m. contest.
