Wildfire girls win Bowman Boosters Relays title, boys secon

In the books, the Mott-Regent/New England co-op track team won the girls competition at the Bowman County Boosters track meet April 16 in Bowman.

But the boys were not far behind, coming in second behind the host Bulldogs.

In reality, it was Mother Nature that picked up the real victory in Bowman when a rainstorm forced the meet to end early.

The Wildfire girls scored 58 team points to edge Baker (53) and Bowman County (51) in team scoring. Richardton-Taylor was fourth (48), while Heart River (fifth, 34), Lemmon (sixth, 32), Hettinger-Scranton (seventh, 29), Beach (eighth, 25), Harding County ( ninth, 24) and Bison (tenth, 21) rounded out the top 10 teams.

Morgan Hertz led the way for the Wildfire with a victory in the 300 meter hurdles. Her time of 49 seconds flat was almost two seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Her teammate, Mary Jane Mayer, was third with a time of 57.17 seconds.

Shelley Kathrein placed second in the high jump, clearing 4-9, while Karagan Friedt toss the javelin 108-6 to finish second.

In the relay events, the Wildfire quartets finished third in the 3,200 meters, third in the 400 meters and fifth in the 800 meters.


Boys take second

The home team won the Bowman Boosters Relays boys team title Tuesday (April 16) easily, but Mott-Regent/New England came in second to the Bulldogs with 52 points. The Bulldogs had grabbed 117 points for thhe boys title.

Baker was third with 49.5 points, followed by Lemmon (fourth, 40.5), Beach (fifth, 34), Harding County (sixth, 28.5), Bison (seventh, 27), Richardton-Taylor (eighth, 23.5), Dickinson (ninth, 12) and Hettinger-Scranton (tenth, 11).

Logan Wolf won the high jump by clearing 5-8 with fewer misses for the solo Wildfire win in the meet.

But the Wildfire also picked up a win in the 400 meter relay with Jaxon Hewson, Cody Perkins, Gabe Sorenson and Aidan Rebel combining for a time of 49.02 seconds, beating the second place team from Baker by a half-second.

A second Wildfire foursome of Sam Heuther, Ayden Kautzman, Wolf, and Pablo Ruez placed fifth in the event with a time of 52.07 seconds.

In the 400 meters, Ruez (59.39) and Asad Watson-Buffalo (1:00.58) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

In the 1,600 meters, Waylon Kathrein placed fifth with a time of 6:02.93, while Tyler Williams wa seventh (6:15.02).

In the 300 meter hurdles, Jaxon Hewson was fourth (45.80), while Michael Frank was sixth (47.09).

Rebel placed eighth in the long jump with a 19-03 effort.
