Nordby wins WDA title, goes to state as top seed

New England picked up a championship Feb. 9 when senior Tate Nodby won his 160-pound title in the WDA championship tournament at Turtle MountainCommunity High School.

The senior from Amidon also helped the Dickinson wrestling team to upset perennial favorite Bismarck for its first WDA team title since 2003.

The Midgets finished with 194 points to drop the favorites from Bismarck to second (188.5 points).

Nordby was one of two Dickinson wrestler to win a title as the Midgets qualified 16 of the team’s 17 wrestlers for the state tournament.

Nordby, who won two of his matches by major decisions, will also have the top seed in the state tournament in the 160-pound competition.

The state tournament started Thursday in the FargoDome with dual team competition.
