Mott-Regent starts fast, falls in overtime opener

After getting off to a fast start, Mott-Regent watched Glen Ullin-Hebron rally to force overtime and pull out a narrow 58-54 victory.

The loss gave the Wildfire (2-3) an 0-1 start in Region 7 play.

The boys from Mott-Regent had parlayed a strong first half into a 25-17 lead.

In the second half the hosts rallied, cutting deeply into the Wildfire lead. The Bearcats outscored the Wildfire by six, leaving the visitors holding a narrow two-point lead going into the final quarter.

The Bearcats scored 15 points and held Mott-Regent to 13 in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime.

In the overtime period, the Bearcats scored 10 points to turn the 48-48 tie into the 58-54 victory and a 2-0 record in Region 7 play.

Jayden Hauck led the Wildfire in scoring with 16 points, while Cody Perkins had 13 points. Caleb Candrian added 10 points. Asad Watson Buffalo scored eight, while Isaac Frey put in six and Teddy Mayer finished with one point.

Dawson Zuroff led the Bearcats with 13 points, followed Braxton Rolle with 12 and Braden Zuroff with 10. In addition, Garret Soupir scored nine, with Grant and Mason Gerving adding eight and six points, respectively.

While the Wildfire outscored the Bearcats outside the arc by a 5-4 margin, it was at the free throw line where the host were able to pull out the win.

At the free throw line, Mott-Regent hit three of six attempts. The hosts had 28 chances at the line and converted 14 of them.

The Bearcats improved to 4-1 with the win.
