Lions Celebrate 85th Anniversary

The New England Lions Club recently celebrated the 85th anniversary of the club, which was granted a charter by Lions Clubs International in September of 1933.  A banquet was held at the New England Memorial Hall, with more than 50 guests attending, including the District Governor from Glenburn, and Lions from Mott, Bowman, Reeder, Scranton, Bismarck and Mandan.

Several New England Lions were recognized with awards.  Roberta (Bobby) Erickson was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, which is the highest award given by Lions Clubs International Foundation.  She was the first woman inducted into the New England Lions Club, in 1996,

Karen Koller received a Lions Foundation of North Dakota Lifetime Membership.  Mark Koller received a District Governor Extension Award for chartering a new Lions Club in Surrey.  Presidential Appreciation Awards were presented to Sandy Lein, Gary and Bonnie Morel, and Lewellyn Rustan,  Centennial Membership Awards were presented to Tim Hecker and Arlene Rose.  Milestone Chevron Awards were given to Mark Koller for 25 years and to Gary Morel for 15 years f service.

The New England Lions Club currently has 36 members.  The club is most noted for the popular Burgers In The Park, held each Tuesday during summer months.  That weekly event has attracted more than 300 guests from the local and area communities.
