Mott firefighter being inducted into Hall of Fame

A Mott firefighter will be inducted into the North Dakota Firefighter’s Hall of Fame Saturday in a ceremony in the Garrison City Auditorium.

Dale Zich joined the fire department in 1977, learning from veterans.

Now, he is the veteran at the station with more than 41 years of experience.

The Mott firefighter wasn’t the first in his family to serve the community. His father was also a firefighter in Mott.

While growing up, Zich remembered his father responding to the whistle whenever it would go off.

Zich admits that his children have had to go through the same experience with him, having family activities interrupted when the alarm went off and he had to report for duty.

Zich will be inducted after a series of ceremonies at the auditorium. It will start with an open house at the North Dakota Firefighters Museum at 4:30 p.m.

Next, there will be Fallen Firefighters Remembrance Ceremony, followed by a social at 5 p.m.

Supper will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the banquet and induction ceremony.
