A graveside service for Isabelle Swenson, 90, of Rhame, ND, will be at 1:00 p.m. at Crawford Cemetery in rural Rhame.
Isabelle Holt Swenson went singing and rejoicing to be her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home.
She was born September 5, 1927 to Albert and Clara Morgan Holt, of Rockham, South Dakota. She attended rural school in Hand County for eight years. She and her siblings walked two miles to and from school. Her father died when she was a small child and the family remained on the family farm, where she loved the beauty of nature and animals. She would work at chores and field work all day in order to avoid housework and doing dishes. She graduated from Miller S.D. High School. After graduation, she remained at home to care for her invalid grandmother, then moved to Rapid City, to attend National School of Business, and later obtained work in the Pennington County Register of Deeds office. Subsequently, she was elected eight times to serve as Registrar of Deeds, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
In 1972, she married Donald Swenson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City. He was the joy of her life. After resigning from the Register of Deeds Office, they operated Cabins in the Hills. They operated a B&B in Keystone. She did title abstract work and sold real estate for Century 21 for ten years. They also operated the Grandview Trailer Court in Hot Springs
She was a member for years of the First Evangelical Free Church in Rapid City, was church secretary and taught Sunday School for ten years, church greeter, choir member and helped with many other needs at the church.
Her husband built their beloved log home in the hills, with all the beauty of nature in the area.
She spent many summers in North Dakota, helping her husband with his ranch. While there, she attended Mound Church. She also quilted at the Rhame Lutheran Church for Lutheran World Relief as well as for local families in need.
She enjoyed her large garden, canning and sharing the produce with neighbors and friends.
Forever grateful to God for her presence in his life, is her surviving husband Donald Swenson.
Also survived by brother Vernon Holt of New Jersey and his sons Alan, Brian, David and daughter Diane; sister-in-law Elvera (Bill) Thorne, her sons, Ron, Todd and daughter Jan.
Also preceded in death by sisters Jane Foushee and Helen Juliar.
