Class ‘B’ State Tournament analysis

Five of the top ten teams in the final state Class B basketball poll qualified for state.

They were Four Winds/Minnewaukan (1), Our Redeemers (2), Shiloh (3), Strasburg/Zeeland (8) and Dickinson Trinity (9).  Unranked Grafton knocked off Hillsboro/Central Valley (6) and Larimore (5) in Region 2, Four Winds eliminated St John (7) in Region 4, unranked New Town upset Parshall (10) in Region 8, and Trinity got by Beulah (4) in Region 7.
The Grafton Spoilers could be the “Spoilers” for the tournament.  After all, they come into the tournament with an 18-6 record and unranked in the final state B poll.  They had to win their region play-in game and were only ranked the No. 5 seed in Region 2.  During region play they knocked off the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 seeds in their region which included state-ranked Hillsboro/CV and Larimore.  They play solid defense and nine of their 12-man roster stand 6l-foot to 6-foot 4-inches in height.  Shiloh may have their hands full but I’ll give the edge Shiloh.
Our Redeemers, a Christian school in Minot, has a tough first game with Strasburg/Zeeland but I believe they will get by them and be one of the finalists.  Their only defeat of the season was a 50-37 loss to Shiloh who they could meet in the semi’s.  They did defeat Trinity and Beulah during the regular season. They also have excellent size on the team along with six seniors.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan is a team that doesn’t need a shot clock as they love to run-and-gun and have averaged around 84 points a game with four games over a 100.  Their lowest scoring game was a 55-51 win over Shiloh.  Their only loss was to Trinity by a 64-61 score.  Northern Cass comes in with a 18-5 record and has decent size in their lineup, but I’ll give the nod to Four Winds/Minnewaukan.  I wasn’t sure where Northern Cass was other than being in Cass County.  The school is located in Hunter about 30 miles north of Fargo and students come from Hunter, Arthur, Argusville, Gardner and Grandin.
I’ll take Trinity over Kenmare in the final.  Trinity knocked off Beulah to earn the state entry from Region 7.  Beulah had downed Trinity during the regular season.  State-ranked Parshall (10) was upset by New Town in the semi’s of the Region 8 tourney and Kenmare got by New Town in the finals by a score of 83-70.
In the semi-finals I’ll go with Our Redeemers over Shiloh and Trinity over Four Winds/M. and then Our Redeemers downing Trinity for the title.  Rugby won the State B last year with a 54-40 victory over Four Winds/Minnewaukan.
