The Hettinger County 4-H Awards Round-Up for the 2016-2017 enrollment year was held Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Mott, ND in the Mott Regent Public School commons area. The County has two 4-H Clubs, one being the Flickertails Club, home-based in Mott, ND and the Prairie Clovers Club, home-based in New England, ND.It was another record setting year for the Hettinger County 4H program. Total enrollment reached an all-time high of 84 in total, there were approximately 68 4-H’ers and parents, in attendance.
The evening began with the Pledge of Allegiance and The 4-H Pledge, led by Flickertail Club President, Sydnee Anderson. Dinner consisted of seven different soup varieties, garlic toast, dinner rolls, veggie tray, fruit, dessert, coffee, water and lemonade all of which was provided by the 4-H Leaders and 4-H parents.
This year the 4-H Council voted to award the “Friend of 4H” Award to Steve Sloan, he has been a 4-H volunteer 4 years. He has been part of the shotgun-training program since it began in Hettinger County in 2013.
4-H leaders were recognized for their years of service. Those individuals were Nadra Auch – 5 years, Kristina Ehlis – 9 Years, James Johnson – 3 years, Darwyn Mayer – 10 years, Rachael Mayer – 7 years, Jan Ottmar – 28 years, Christa and Scott Schmidt – 3 years, Mary Pat Schwartz – 5 years, Steve Sloan – 4 years, Anne Wolf – 9 years, Justin Augare – 2 years, and Sheila Steiner – 6 years.
The 4-H’ers each received recognition for projects completed and displayed at Hettinger County Fair and for participation and or placement in district and state events. Each member also received yearly membership tokens and new members were awarded a new member plaque.
Throughout the banquet door prizes were drawn for kids and adults of all ages. The new 4-H enrollment year began September 1, 2017. Enrollment numbers are up again this year and the Hettinger County Agent, Duaine Marxen, is confident that this year will be another groundbreaking year for the Hettinger County 4-H program!
