A 62-year old Texas man died as a result of his injuries when his semi truck rolled nine miles west of New England. The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 in Slope County.

According to a police report issued by the North Dakota Highway Patrol the driver, Richard J. Lugan, was traveling westbound on Highway 21 on his way to Watford City from Houston when the vehicle left the roadway and veered into the north ditch. He tried to bring the semi back onto the road but rolled in the north ditch. The vehicle stopped in that ditch on the roof facing west.
Lugan was operating a 2010 International Semi hauling a flat bed trailer with piping.
According to the report he was wearing his seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Currently the accident is being investigated by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Slope County, New England Ambulance, New England Rural Fire Department, and Valley Air Flight all assisted.
