Jared Baumiller went the distance for the Skyhawks and WWCS starter Braydee Hanson took the loss. In the other opening-round game Hazen defeated Heart River 15-5 in six innings.
In what would be considered a mild upset and surprising score Shiloh defeated No. 1-seeded Beulah 11-0 in five innings in the second round. Beulah is the two-time defending region champion. Canaan Fagerland and Jared Baumiller combined on a seven-hitter for Shiloh. Hettinger-Scranton-New England downed No. 3 Hazen 10-4 in the second game of the round. Leading the Night Hawks hitting was Jarad Mattis with two doubles and Ty Warbis doubled, tripled and drove in two runs to lead an 11-hit Hettinger-Scranton-NE attack. Bo Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double, and Brett Christopherson had a double and two runs batted in.
That pit No. 4-seeded Shiloh Christian and No. 2 Hettinger-Scranton-NE in the semifinal round. It was a rough game for the Night Hawks as Shiloh scored five runs in the first inning and kept adding runs as they pounded out a 16-1 win over the Night Hawks. Chase Schiele pitched the first three innings and Josh Kolling the final two as they combined for a two-hitter. Brett Christopherson absorbed the loss.
In the losers bracket Beulah downed Heart River 15-5 and WWCS 10-3. WWCS had earlier defeated Hazen 6-4. Beulah and the Night Hawks will play May 24 with the winner having to face Shiloh right after. If Shiloh wins they will be the Region 8 champs and if they lose the “if” game will be played on May 25.
