Library News – New England Public Library

The New England Public Library had story hour on April 1 with Christa Schmidt leading the events that morning; the group painted baby chick pictures by using a plastic fork to paint the body, adding paper beaks and feet and a pair of googly eyes.

Emma Olsonawski read the books “Duck’s Easter Egg Hunt” and “The Night Before Easter” to the group.

They made eggs by  sticking multi-colored tissue paper pieces between two egg shaped pieces of contact paper. Then Emma read the books “If You give a Mouse A Cookie” and “I Wish I Had Duck Feet.” Everyone received a treat of Cheetos in a carrot shaped baggie.

The library is celebrating National Library week with an open house on April 11, 12, 13. There will be cookies, coffee and punch served during regular library hours which are 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday and 3 p.m.-5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Come in for a good book to read and some refreshments.

On June 1 the summer reading program will start at the library. There will be additional hours at the library: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the library from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Beginning in May parents are asked to sign up their toddlers through 6th-graders to participate. Each child will have a chart to  record all the books they read during June and July. There will be prizes form McDonalds at the annual picnic on Aug. 3 for the readers.

New books on the shelves are “Devil’s Triangle” by Catherine Coulter, “We were the Lucky Ones” by Georgia Hunter, “My Husbands Wife” by Jane Corry, “Right Behind You” by Lisa Gardner abd “Hollywood Daughter” by Kate Alcott.
