The New England Lions Club has launched a fund raising campaign to finance an ambitious goal for new playground equipment at the Lions Park. The existing equipment is out of date and does not meet current standards and requirements. It is not adequate to serve the number of children who play there, especially during the popular Burgers In The Park each Tuesday evening during the summer.
The cost of appropriate equipment and set-up is estimated at $60,000. Additional cost of the required base material and installation is surprisingly expensive.
The Lions are seeking financial assistance from a number of sources, and have submitted several grant applications. Others are being researched, and those applications will be submitted within the next weeks.
Donations from area businesses and individuals are eagerly sought and much appreciated. Major donors who contribute $1,000 or more will be recognized on a plaque at the park. Donations to New England Lions Club with “Playground” in the memo line can be sent to Lewellyn Rustan.
The current fund raising project of the Lions Club, is ‘a nite at the races” on Saturday, March 11th at the Memorial Hall in New England. That project could raise more than $5,000. Currently, the Lions’ Playground Fund has less than $15,000 for the project. With anticipated grant funds, and strong community support, the $60,000 goal could be reached.
When fund raising efforts are completed, available funds will determine the playground equipment that can be purchased. The Lions hope that will be adequate to provide the playground the community needs and can be proud of.
The goal is to have the new equipment in place early in June. When the equipment arrives, the Lions will seek the help of non-member volunteers to assist in the set up process.
