On a bitter cold Thursday morning, five students loaded on a bus, and departed to Dickinson to compete in the State Range Judging Contest.

The team consisted of Emily Ehlis, Levi Stegner, Nick Rettinger, Tate Nordby, and myself. It rained throughout all of the contest, and I’m not going to lie, it was miserable. Don’t get me wrong, this area needed the rain, but the contest would have been a lot more enjoyable if we weren’t constantly shivering.

After spending two hours outside in the rain, you can bet we were all soaked from the head to the toe. Some of us were wishing that we hadn’t even gone to the contest in the first place.

But all of that changed when awards were announced. The feelings of regret were overpowered by feelings of joy as New England was declared the State Range Judging Champion. It turned out that standing in the rain for two hours was a small price to pay to get the opportunity to compete at Nationals.

The National Range Judging Contest will take place in Oklahoma during May. Individually, Tate placed 55th overall, Nick placed 16th overall and earned a silver award, Emily placed 14th overall and earned a gold award, Levi placed third overall and earned a gold award, and I placed second overall and earned a gold award.

special thanks goes out to everyone on the team and Mr. Krebs for their hard work and determination. Oklahoma better get ready, because New England is going to Nationals!
