Amidon resident places second in triathlon

Some running, some biking, and some swimming.

Some running, some biking, and some swimming. On Saturday, July 23 Bowman played host to the Lions Splash and Dash For Diabetes Awareness mini triathlon, and Amidon resident Scott Ourdanik finished second overall. Ouradnik finished with a time of 50:13.

The triathlon consisted of a 5 kilometer run (3.1 miles), a 3.6 mile bike ride (it went from Sweet Water Golf Course outside of Bowman to the Rouzie Rec Center in Bowman), and a swim of 10 pool lengths (250 yards) at the Rouzie Rec Center.

Top finisher was Daniel Burkhalter of Bison, SD. He finished with a time of 37:31. Finishing behind him was Ouradnik, and Jonathan Burkhalter of Bison (56:04).

The top team to finish was Team 1 from Bowman. That team consisted of Jennifer Jahner, Alex Bartholomay, and Duane Bowman. They finished with a time of 38:27. Coming in second and third respectively were Team 2 out of Bison (Nathan Burkhalter, Parker Minh, Regan Minh), and Team 5 from Bowman (Heather Hiatt, Chris Hiatt, and Ella Hiatt).

This event has been going on in some form since the late 80s, according to Lions Club Member Charles Whitney. It had started out as a simple walk-a-thon, but in recent years it has morphed into what has become this year’s mini triathlon. It has been held during the same weekend for the past 10 years, Whitney said. Planning, and scheduling, of next year’s event has yet to occur.
