Mass of Christian Burial for Frank L. Miller, age 82, of Mott, ND was held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Mott in which Fr. Charles Zins officiated. Burial was at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery in Webster, SD on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm MT in which Fr. Axtmann, officiated.
Visitation was from 3 – 7 pm on Monday. A Rosary and Wake Service was held at 7 pm at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.
Casket-bearers who served are Rod Novak, Darrell Walker, Bob Miller, Derek Mayer, Scott Miller, Craig Miller, and Matt Miller. All family and friends were considered honorary bearers.
Frank L. Miller was born May 29, 1934 near Mott, ND, the ninth of 10 children, born to Henry H. and Rose C. (Neuman) Miller. He attended Timber Creek Country School, St. Mary’s Catholic School in New England, a school in Oakland, CA, and Sacred Heart Catholic School in Miles City, MT. Frank worked construction for a short time and then in the Gold Mine at Lead, SD. He married Donna M. Luke in 1952 and they began their life together on the Miller family farm. They raised their family there and Frank continued farming until retiring in 1999.
During the 1960’s he spent 7 years doing custom combine harvesting. In 1969, he and Frank Mayer started FM Lines Inc., a trucking business. Frank served on the Kern Township Board, was on a bowling team and enjoyed playing poker. He also enjoyed antique cars and tractors, and his daily coffee with his Pheasant Café friends. Frank was an avid toy and pedal tractor collector and was especially proud of his Pedal Tractor Museum that was located on downtown Main St. in Mott.
Frank passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
Frank is survived by his children and their spouses, Dianne and Lawrence Zentner, Mott, ND; Lynn and Melanie Miller, Mott, ND; Beverly Laufer, Hettinger, ND; Janice and Darrel Ottmar, Mott, ND; Wanda and Wade Hoherz, Bentley, ND; Charles and Tina Miller, Mott, ND; 22 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one sister, Agatha Harbac, Bozeman, MT; one step-sister, Helen Swanson, Miles City, MT; one sister-in-law, Anne Miller, St. Cloud, MN; one brother-in-law, Burnell Svihovec, Billings, MT; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Stanley Laufer; brothers, Norbert, Lawrence, Melvin, Maurice, and Wilfred; sisters, Blanche Avery, Agnes Walker, Norma Svihovec; a great granddaughter, Caydee Miller; step-brothers, Joseph, Donald, and Patrick Miller; and step-sister, Margaret Shy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Good Samaritan Society in Mott.
