Mott will have a veteran and pastor headlining their Memorial Day festivities.
Monsignor Chad Gion, just recently returned from an overseas tour of duty in Kosovo, will be the featured speaker at the Memorial Day observance at Mott.
A native of Regent, Father Gion is pastor of the Spirit of Life Church in Mandan and of congregations in St. Anthony and Huff.
While in Kosovo, a former province of Yugoslavia that’s been riven by violent ethnic and religious differences, he served as chaplain to U.S. peacekeeping forces. Father Gion is a captain in the North Dakota National Guard.
The ceremonies in Mott begin at 10 a.m. in the school gym. They’re followed by observances on the Cannonball River bank in honor of those who died at sea and then by a ceremony at the cemetery.
The public is invited to the events and also to a meal afterwards at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Main Street. The Taylor-Skartvedt Post of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary have organized the observance
