Codi Miller, who was the 2014 Miss Rodeo North Dakota, is the focus of NBC’s Special Cowboy Moments episode on Saturday, September 5 at 5 p.m. CDT. The show will be re-aired again on Sunday at 6 a.m. CDT and then an audio version will air again on 93.9, I-94 Drivin’ Country KXDI Radio at 2 p.m. CDT on Monday, September 7. The episode is sponsored by Just-In Glass of Dickinson.
Miller is a graduate of Bowman High School who, during her high school years, competed in the Miss Teen USA Pageant and did well enough to go to the finals in Florida.Yet when she returned home, rather than receive accolades and support she was instead faced with abuse and bullying from classmates.
This ultimately led her to focus more on and become a high school rodeo champion and her acceptance there led her to enter the Miss Rodeo North Dakota pageant, which she won.
From there she went on to finish in the top 10 nationally in the Miss Rodeo America pageant.
Far from a fluff rodeo queen piece, this episode addresses the difficulties faced by kids growing up, it addresses the politics involved in the world of pageantry and it gives us insight into the world of a rodeo queen as she travels the country. In addition, Miller discusses her family’s greatest challenge to date…dealing with her four-year-old niece’s battle with cancer.
“I couldn’t be more proud of her,” said Gary Miller, Codi’s father and longtime Amidon area rancher. “She is determined and when she gets focused on something she works hard at it until she gets it done right.”
Special Cowboy Moments is a weekly half hour “living history” series that is produced by the North Dakota Cowboy Association and Ken Howie Studios. It features an interview format combined with interesting photography and video footage.
Special Cowboy Moments airs on NBC affiliates in Bismarck, Dickinson, Williston and Minot.
“I know Codi well enough to know that I wanted the world to be able to see how much depth there is to this young lady,” said Kevin Holten, president of the NDCA and executive producer of Special Cowboy Moments. “She has a lot to say, especially to young people, simply because she has experienced a lot in a very short time. And I expect to see her accomplish much more in her lifetime because this is a very special person.”
