The New England student athletes have been putting in a lot of work over the summer for the upcoming 2015-2016 seasons.

The Tiger girls’ volleyball team just got back from a four day team camp in Denver, Colo. Head Coach Taylor Hafner, along with her two assistants took 15 girls from grades 8-12 to the Legacy Volleyball Academy.

”It (the camp) went really well, we learned a lot, I was very impressed with it,” Haefner said.

The camp is an individual team camp, where Director Hermie Corns coaches, and also brings in other coaches, to work with the girls one on one in the mornings, with team work in the afternoons.

Coach Hafner is very excited about her upcoming season, and Director Corns also thinks this is going to be a great season for the Tiger girls.

“He thinks that we’re the best team he has seen, since we brought down there,” Hafner said.

To pay for the camp the girls did some fundraisers, selling Pizza Corner pizzas and other items. The team will be having some more fundraisers coming up such as tumbler mugs, and an Adidas clothing line that can also be ordered. Details of these fundraisers will be coming soon. The Lady Tigers open their season on August 29 at the Hazen Tournament.

Newly hired boys basketball varsity Coach Devin Gonzales wasted no time in hosting open gyms this summer for boys in grades 5-12. Due to the timing of his hire, coach Gonzales ,along with his varsity players, only attended a couple of area team camps, but he has been thinking about some others he would like them to attend next summer.

Cody Holt and Brady Bender just got back from a two-week AAU Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. Holt was in the 16U section and Bender was in the 17U section.

“(It) was a good experience, I picked up on what I needed to get better on,” Holt said.

This was Holt’s first year at the tournament.

The boy’s basketball team is also selling t-shirts for their basketball gear for the 2015-2016 season. The t-shirts are orange and black with ‘W1N THE DAY’ on the front.

The costs of the shirts are $20 each and can be purchased from Coach Gonzales.
