Ty Nordby, Amidon, needs to lace up his football cleats one more time as he has been chosen to play in the 42nd Annual Shrine Bowl on July 18 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

Nordby was originally chosen as an alternate, but received a phone call that a player wasn’t able to make it.

“I was down in Hettinger playing a baseball game, I got home and they had called my house and my mom talked to them and I called them back” Nordby said.

Nordby played for Dickinson Trinity and was on the varsity team for three years, playing tight end and outside linebacker. Nordby will be traveling to Mayville on July 13 where Mayville State University will be hosting the 132 players and 16 coaches during their week of training.

Two to three daily practices will be held at the Mayville State practice field and the Jerome Berg Field during the week. The players and coaches will stay in the residence halls on campus during their week of practice.

The 42nd annual North Dakota Shrine Bowl is sponsored by the Kem and El Zagal Temples of Grand Forks and Fargo. Teams are made up of 120 athletes from North Dakota, and 12 athletes from northwest Minnesota. The 132 members of the East and West 9-man and 11-man teams are coached by 16 coaches who are all members of the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. The coaches are selected in reflection of their 2014 seasons.

There will be two football games played on July 18, the 11-man East team versus the 11-man West team will begin at 4:00 p.m. central time, and the 9-man East team versus the 9-man West team will begin at 7:00 p.m. central time.

TV coverage of both games will be provided by WDAY.
