For the fifth straight year, Just For The Health of It of Mott hosted their annual ‘5k Fun Run.’ Holly Ottmar, founder of Just For The Health of It, said that since its inception the event has grown significantly.

Ottmar said that last year the event had over 50 people participate, this year that number grew, over 80 were registered.

“We’re definitely taking flight,” Ottmar said.

New to this years race was the inclusion of kids. Kids 11 years of age or older were able to get involved and race with the group.

Also new this year was the chance for people to run as a team.

“We did start giving an opportunity to groups of families or people that wanted to run for a specific cause,” Ottmar said.

Eventually she said they want to have class reunion teams, or memorial teams, something for people to run for a specific cause and purpose.

The fun run also participated in fundraising. Casey Hoherz was injured in a ranching accident and funds have been collected for his benefit. Ottmar said that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hoherz and they also took up a collection that was separate from the 5K proceeds. The Hettinger County Fair, also this past weekend, participated in fundraising for Hoherz through their beer sales at the fairgrounds.

Door prizes and cash were given to the top three finishers in the four categories. The categories were women runners, male runners, walkers, and kids 11 years old and under. The results are as follows: Top 3 Women Runners – Hollie Kuppler (26:55), Amanda Meier (27:11), Whitney Mayer (27:34); Top three men runners – Joshua Wutzke (22:25), Dean Wehri (24:00), Dan Mayer (24:12); Top 3 Walkers – Gerri Jacobson (41:46), Shawn Landis (43:41), Olivia Jones (47:38); Top 3 Kids, 11 and Under – Matthew Huether (28:19), Jazlyn Ottmar (30:49), Kaden Auch (32:43).

Ottmar said that they have continued to hold the event during the weekend of the fair because it can help in attracting more runners. She said that many people that live outside come and visit family during the fair and she has seen participation increase from those fair-goers.
