Lucille B. Schwindt, 79, Dickinson, N.D. died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Lucille’s Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Inurnment followed at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, N.D.

Lucille B. Gatzke was born December 13, 1935, at DeSart, N.D. the daughter of Gust and Alma (Geinitz) Gatzke. She was raised in the home area, having attended country school.

Lucille was united in marriage to Anton T. Schwindt in South Heart, N. D. They made their home in Dickinson, N.D. where they raised their six children. She was a wonderful cook and baker, which led her to work as a cook at the Sim’s Café, DSC Student Center, St. Benedict’s Health Center, and the German-Hungarian Club.

She belonged to the St. Ann’s Society, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She loved  making blankets, reading, working on crossword puzzles, swimming (which came from her love for the water), gospel country music, polka music, and dancing. Lucille had a special fondness for Medora and what the State of North Dakota had to offer.

Lucille is survived by her husband Anton; their six children, Cheryl “Cher” Schwindt, Aberdeen, S.D., Gary Schwindt, Lake Park, Minn., Karen (Roger) Knaup, Dickinson, Charlene (Wayne) Welu, Fargo, Leonard Schwindt, Dickinson, and Kenneth Schwindt, Aberdeen, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Dustin Schwindt, Tim Schwindt, Katrina Valder, Gunner Welu, William Schwindt, Madison Schwindt, and Benjamin Schwindt; three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Gabe, and Ava; four siblings, Alma Hoffer, Regent, Ann Frank, Sidney, Mont., Herbert (Joyce) Gatzke, Regent, and Arthur (Eileen) Gatzke, New England; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and William Gatzke.
