Lindsay Magelky has come full circle with her journey towards her profession. The owner and operator of ‘Everyday Elegance by Lindsay’, a beauty shop located in Regent, N.D., Magelky has been in the beauty business for over 10 years.

A graduate of Mott/Regent in 2002, Magelky moved to Fargo, N.D. and began her education at Josef’s School of Hair Design. Enrolling in September 2002, Megelky completed her education in August 2003.

After receiving her beauticians license, Magelky worked in Fargo for a few years before moving closer to home.

She moved to Dickinson and worked for a salon before moving on to her own operation in 2007. When asked if she always desired to start her own business or if the opportunity presented itself she said it was both.

“The opportunity kind of came up and I just kind of went with it, I’m very glad I did,” Magelky said.

On May 12 of this year, Magelky expanded her business and opened up another location in Regent. Shortly after that Magelky lost her Dickinson spot when an adjacent business started on fire.

“I had both salons open for five days,” Magelky said.

Unfortunate luck stayed with Magelky when her family home started on fire a few months later.

With her family safe and sound, Magelky and her husband have been working to rebuild the family house, but she did not re-establish her Dickinson location.

Now Magelky operates a single location and doesn’t have to travel very far from home to get to work.

Everyday Elegance by Lindsay offers the usual services found at a salon: hair cuts, hair coloring and waxing. Her business also offers a few other services that include hair extensions, pedicures and a tanning bed.

One of her favorite parts of the job is the time she gets conversing with her clients.

“The conversation with the people is just priceless,” Magelky said.

At this point Magelky’s business is more than steady, as she said she’s “generally booked six to eight weeks out,” and can be longer during the holiday seasons. Her clients know how important their appointments are in a schedule that fills up as quickly as Magelky’s.

“I’ve had clients [that] have had their spouses drive them in a blizzard to make their hair appointment, because they will not miss it,” Magelky said.

Some of her younger clients saw the enthusiasm Magelky had for her work and the passion she exudes while performing her duties. So much so that three of them are following the path towards a career in the beauty industry, something Magelky said she enjoyed seeing.

She did have some advice for anyone desiring to get into the industry.

“You really have to enjoy what you’re doing, put your whole heart into it,” Magelky said. “Ifg it’s your passion, you’re going to do well.”

Everyday Elegance by Lindsay is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and you can contact the salon for an appointment at 701-209-0279.
