The air was cool, the sun was setting and the players hit the field. On a brisk August evening in Mott, the varsity football squad took the field for not only the opening game of the season, but the fans were treated to the first game taking place in their own stadium.

The Wildfire kept pace with the Buccaneers for the first quarter, only down by eight points by the time the second quarter started.

But Richardton/Taylor/Hebron put up a force to be reckoned with in the second quarter, putting up 22 unanswered points. At the half, Mott/Regent was down 36-6 and couldn’t recover.

Mott/Regent did score one more time, but in the end, the Buccaneers put themselves too far ahead for the Wildfire to catch them.

The Buccaneers won 52-12.

The Wildfire play Trenton/Trinity/Christian on Saturday, August 30 at 2 p.m.

The Mott/Regent Wildfire will play at home three more times this season.
