Joyce Ann Rustan


Joyce Ann Rustan, age 79, Donnelly, Minn., formerly from New England, N.D., died on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, Minn.

The funeral for was held Aug. 26, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Morris, Minn. with Reverend Paul Erdal officiating. Visitation was at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and burial was at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Joyce, daughter of Bernard and Lizeta (Culver) Rustan was born July 2, 1935, on the family farm south of New England, N.D. She was baptized at the Rainy Butte Lutheran Church near New England.

The family moved to Oregon for five years before returning to North Dakota. Joyce attended country school at DeSart, before graduating from New England High School in 1954.

She then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., receiving her B.A. in Psychology in 1958. Joyce was very proud that she worked several jobs to pay her own way through college. After her schooling, Joyce worked at the Mental Hospital in Jamestown, N.D. and at an orphanage.

She later moved to Minneapolis and worked at a post office.

Joyce was united in marriage to Dwayne Steuck on Sept.1, 1970 at Rainy Butte Lutheran Church near New England. The couple made their home and farmed near Donnelly, Minn. Dwayne died on Sept. 11, 1997.

Joyce continued to live near Donnelly until four days before her death when she entered the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, Minn.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Morris.

She loved music and enjoyed dancing. Joyce will always be remembered for being a hard worker and her frugal life style.

She is survived by: two brothers, Vern Rustan, Brigham, Utah and Ivan Rustan, Dickinson, N.D.; a very special friend, Steve Fults, Donnelly, Minn.; one brother-in-law, David Frank, New England, N.D.; 10 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in by her husband, parents, and one sister, Cindy Frank.
