Who doesn’t like Oreos? The residents of Regent, N.D. were treated to a surprise this week as OREO launched a promotion focused on their OREO Mini product, sending a tiny box to every household in town.

So what’s the story behind the tasty chocolate and cream cookie? According to Rachael Lewis, Assistant Account Executive on the project in New York, N.Y., the company had previously launched a ‘long form video’ for viewing online and before show times at movie theaters.

The theme of the video focused on the ‘small things in life.’

It tells the story of ‘Mel’s Mini Mini Mart,’ and how the business is being overlooked for larger places to stop.

Then one family decides to stop, and discovers a wondrous array of different OREO Minis. The father happens to be a reporter and he spreads the word, and suddenly ‘Mel’s Mini Mini Mart’ becomes a huge hit. The video can be viewed at www.youtube.com/oreo.

The response was tremendous, so they decided to capitalize on it.

The thought of expanding on the campaign hinged on ‘Mel’s Mini Mini Mart,’ and what a delivery from such a quaint little shop would be like. The idea sky rocketed from there.

So how would the company roll this out?

Given that they are utilizing  Mini Oreos in this campaign, the company thought about small towns, and how many of them are overlooked simply because of their size. Though smaller communities don’t have the size or the amenities of larger areas, Oreo understands that each little town offers some thing special.

According to a press release “ OREO Mini is celebrating the special little things in life that can sometimes go overlooked, starting with special little towns that hold big wonder.”

When the communities were chosen, a fun factoid of the town was highlighted. So they went through and chose one small town from each of the 50 states, picking from a pool of the smallest communities in each state.

Unbeknownst to Regent, they were chosen. And part of the focal point in the selection of Regent was the Enchanted Highway. So on Aug. 11, every household in Regent was sent a delivery from the fictional ‘Mel’s Mini Mini Mart.’

Other towns include:  Mooresville (Ala.), Cantwell (Alaska), Supai (Ariz.), Beaver (Ark.), Coulterville (Calif.), Marble (Colo.), Falls Village (Conn.), Bethel (Del.), Weeki Wachee (Fla.), Helen (Ga.), Waiohinu (Hawaii), Stanley (Idaho), Palmer (Ill.), Mauckport (ind.), Balltown (Iowa), Athol (Kan.), Rabbit Hash (Ky.), Sugartown (La.), Beddington (Maine), Port Tobacco (Md.), New Ashford (Mass.), Coppoer Harbor (Mich.), Longville (Minn.), Sebastopol (Miss.), Kimmswick (Mo.), Neihart (Mont.), Monowi (Neb.), Gerlach (Nev.), Hart’s Location (N.H.), Walpack Township (N.J.), Madrid (N.M.), Greigsville (N.Y.), Love Valley (N.C.), Gilboa (Ohio), Medicine Park (Okla.), Sumpter (Ore.), Eagles Mere (Pa.), Foster Center (R.I.), Springfield (S.C.), Roslyn (S.D.), Hickory Valley (Tenn.), Round Top (Texas), Hanksville, (Utah), Searsburg (Vt.), Hilsboro (Va.), Vantage (Wash.), Friendly (W.Va.), Cornucopia (Wis.), Aladdin (Wyo.).

OREO is also letting consumers outside of these small towns get into the fun.

OREO is going to let you send a mini box, for free, to someone you think deserves to be recognized for something special. People can go to OREOMiniDelivery.com and send their own personalized OREO Mini delivery.

“Fans can go online and actually send their own personal OREO Mini delivery,” Lewis said.

The small parcel is 2”x2” and allows consumers to send someone special a little note in a creative way.

Citizens of Regent, did you get your ‘Mel’s Mini Mini Mart’ delivery? If you did receive a little paper wrapped box, snap a picture with it and submit it to The Herald, or post it on Facebook for your chance to end up in the paper!
