Country Media, Inc. recently made two changes to its management team of its North Dakota group, which includes the Adams County Record, Bowman County Pioneer, Dunn County Herald, New England Herald and The Finder.
Bryce Martin, editor of the Bowman County Pioneer, has been promoted to Group Editor. Martin will supervise and assist the group’s editors with day-to-day news coverage and content generation. He will also take a larger role in growing the group’s digital products and special publications.
“In this time when larger publications are making cutbacks to their editorial and employee fronts, community newspapers on the whole are flourishing,” Martin said. “It is with great confidence I assume the responsibility of ensuring that each of our group papers is editorially thriving in its own right and that we get back to the fundamentals of great community journalism and solid storytelling.”
Martin, a graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, came to Country Media in January 2013 as editor of the Dunn County Herald. He was named editor of the Bowman County Pioneer last June.
“Just because we live in small communities never should mean we aim lower in providing superior news and sports coverage,” he said.
Stacy Swenson, publisher and advertising representative for the Bowman County Pioneer and The Finder, also was named Group Publisher in a move to help centralize group management.
Swenson joined the Bowman papers in August. She will now oversee the group’s business and financial sides, but will maintain her previous role as advertising director for the Bowman County Pioneer and Dunn County Herald.
“I really enjoy working with people in the small towns that I visit each week,” Swenson said.
