Hettinger County announces Spelling Bee Champion

She is an eighth grader at Mott-Regent Public School. John Wolf, son of Marc and Anne Wolf, took first place. He is an eighth grader at New England Public School. Both students are wonderful spellers and will represent our county participation proudly. Approximately 160 county winners will participate in the state competition.

The 2014 State Spelling Bee will be conducted March 21, 2014 at the Ramkota Inn in Bismarck. The State Spelling Bee is cosponsored by the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders, North Dakota Association of County Superintendents and the North Dakota Newspaper Association. The State Bee is affiliated with the National Spelling Bee which will be held in Washington, D.C. May 25-May 31, 2014 and to which the cosponsors will send the state winner.

Each county is allowed two entries in the state competition. The counties adopt plans for their competitions. Hettinger County conducts its spelling bee under the direction of Sheila Steiner, County Superintendent of Schools. This competition was held February 18, 2014.
