Tiger girls take Fifth place in Roughrider Tourney

The New England Tigers girls basketball team took the 5th place consolation title at the 38th annual Roughrider Basketball Tournament in Killdeer last week.

After suffering a 50 – 45 loss to Hettinger-Scranton on Tuesday in the opening round, the Tigers came back with a 54-25 win over the Richardton-Taylor Raiders.

The Tigers took an early lead and never looked back the whole game, leading 9-4 after the first period and 19-10 at half time. They came out of half time on fire, scored 18 in the third quarter to hold a 37-18 lead, adding 17 more in the final period.

High scorer for the Tigers was Taylor Hewson with 16 points, making five field goals and shooting 6 for 6 from the free throw line.

Gabbi Hanson kicked in 10 points and Hannah Nordby added nine.

Leading the team in steals were Hannah Nordby with six and Gabbi Hanson with five. Gabbi Hanson also made three assists.

Taylor Hewson pulled down seven rebounds and Gabbi Hanson grabbed four.

The Tigers played the Killdeer High School Cowboys Friday evening for their final game of the tournament, winning 55 – 41.

Hannah Nordby threw in 17 points to lead the Tiger scoring, with Taylor Hewson adding 15 and Gabbi Hanson adding 10, including two three pointers.

Nordby also grabbed five steals and seven rebounds.
