Mott-Regent Elementary teachers attend Daily 5/Café Conference

Mrs. Petri, Mrs. Kienzle, and Mrs. Gion were able to attend The Daily 5/Café Conference Nov. 11th and 12th with the “Two Sisters”, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. They learned a lot about the reading style being implemented in the Mott/Regent Elementary School.

According to Gail and Joan, “The Daily 5 is a structure that helps the students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence. CAFÉ is an acronym for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary, and the system includes goal-setting with students in individual conferences, developing small group instruction based on students with similar goals.”

They believe the more practice students have at reading, the more fluent the students become.
