“Dig into Reading” Picnic

By Becky Jacobs

The New England Library’s Summer Reading program, “Dig into Reading”, came to an end with a picnic at the Lion’s Park. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the breezy sunshine before eating hot dogs and hamburgers.

Librarian Donna Jirges congratulated the 23 plus kids on reading more than 370 books during the summer. That is an average of 16 books per person. What an accomplishment, especially in such an age of technology. These kids are to be commended on their dedication to reading.

Donna handed out t-shirts, towels and other items to the kids. Butch Frank cooked the delicious burgers and hot dogs. Bernie and Tom Gorek, Kay Kuske, Laurie Monke, Pat Rafferty, Bonnie Jung, and Becky Jacobs were all on hand to help serve the happy group.

Thank you to all who made the summer reading program such a success. Please join us for Story hour beginning in October. The Library is open Tuesdays 3 – 6 pm and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 pm.
