Erin Ehlis of New England, N.D. has been selected for this honor. Erin is a member of the New England high school music program, directed by Conway Heupel. Erin is the daughter of John and Kristina Ehlis.

Students were nominated for the 2013 Northern Ambassadors of Music tour based upon their level of musicianship, leadership, and character, and were selected for participation by invitation. Each nominee received a copy of an ambassador of good will proclamation from the office of the governor or his or her respective state honoring his or her selection.

Dr. Warren Olfert, Director of Bands at NDSU, will serve as Music Director for the tour. Olfert will conduct the Honor Band, while Dr. Sigurd Johnson, also from NDSU, will direct a jazz ensemble composed of students from the Honor Band. Larry Swingen, choir director at Malta High school in Malta, Mont., will conduct the Honor Choir. Voyageurs International, Ltd., a Denver-based agency specializing in European music tours for over 37 states throughout the country for over 40 years, designs the tour. This is the Northern Ambassadors seventh tour, having grown from 110 participants in 2001 to almost 350 travelers in 2013.

Prior to their departure for Europe on July 9, student participants will gather on the campus of NDSU for an intensive four-day schedule of rehearsals and orientation sessions. Monday evening, July 8, at 6:30 PM, a farewell concert will be held in Festival Concert Hall in the Reineke Fine Arts Center on the campus of NDSU and is open to the public.

The Northern Ambassadors of Music honor band and chorus will share their music with European audiences in seven different countries and in a variety of performance settings. The tour will include stops in England, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, and Germany. The Northern Ambassadors of Music tour is an educational program designed for honor music students to perform and share their musical talents, while gaining cultural enrichment abroad.

Thank you so much for the last concert of your European tour in Rothenburg o.d.T., Germany on 23rd of July 2013. We had the possibility to experience this wonderful concert in the Franziskaner church and we enjoyed it so much.

Please come back in two years with your choir director Larry Swingen and his wife Barbara.

We hope to see you soon in Germany.

Best wishes to all members of the choir.

    Greetings from Rothenburg

  2. I was on holidays in Austria, two weeks ago, and I had the opportunity to hear your Choir in Seefeld. It was an extraordinary experience, and I can say it, because in Italy I sing in a Choir too, whose name is “Canto sospeso”. It would be nice if I could find a CD with your songs.
