Both teams had lost their opening round games and then defeated their opponents in the second round.

The Tigers took an early lead and carried it to the close of the first quarter, 18-12.

The second quarter saw the Wildfire and Tigers trade baskets, but New England outscored Mott-Regent 14-12 in the second and led 32-24 at the halftime buzzer.

In the first half, the Wildfire connected on only nine field goals in 33 attempts for a cool 27.3 percent and only knocked down one of seven from three-point land. Meanwhile New England completed 13/23 from the floor for 56.5 percent and 3/10 treys.

Following halftime, the Tigers returned to the hardcourt for some quick warm-ups and the other end of the floor remained empty. Boy, Coach Heckaman must really be chewing out his players! Finally an announcement was made that the Wildfire were unable to get out of their locker room, the door wouldn’t open. The maintenance man had to destroy the doorknob with a screwdriver to get the door open.

Mott-Regent outscored New England 12-11, but the Tigers still led 43-36 after three. The fourth quarter was all Wildfire as they began the stanza on a 10-0 run. Trailing by three, New England called a time out with 5:16 showing on the clock. Taylor nailed two treys, Tyler knocked down a pair of field goals and Jacob contributed a two and a three. Meanwhile Lane Herberholz with a field goal was the only Tiger to score. Another time out at the two minute mark showed a 14-point lead for the Wildfire. Prince nailed a jumper, Jacob answered with a field goal and Prince scored another. Taylor drew a foul and drained both from the line and then did it again. Brady Bender knocked down a three- pointer and Taylor drained another pair from the charity stripe as the final buzzer blew. The Wildfire shot 58.3 percent from the floor in the second half, went 5/9 on their three pointers and 10/11 from the line. Meanwhile, New England shot 26.9 percent from the floor. The Wildfire outrebounded the Tigers 42-30. Tyler was the leading rebounder for Mott-Regent with ten and Daniel Prince for New England with nine.
