Congregational Church celebrates 125 years

The New England First Congregational Church UCC celebrated its 125th anniversary Oct. 17, 2012 with a worship service.

Julie Opdahl played the keyboard and she and Mark Koller sang a special version of “Amazing Grace.”

Dr. Rev. Wade Schemmel, Northern Plains Conference Minister presented the 125th anniversary plaque, and congratulated the congregation on this remarkable feat and gave his blessings for the future. Church board chairwomen Winona Olson and Pastor Janel Kolar accepted the plaque on behalf of the congregation.

Our Redeemer’s Lutheran, Dickinson Congregational Church, and Mayor Marty Opdahl sent letters of congatulations and best wishes for the next 125 years. Members of Pierce Congregational Church (former yoke parish) brought a peace lily plant with congratulations. A beautiful autumn bouquet was a gift from the Mildred Cross family. The church was decorated with autumn leaves and wheat centerpieces. Souvenirs/mementos of the occasion are coffee mugs featuring a recent photo of the outside of the church.

A delicious roast beef dinner was enjoyed by all, followed by visiting and reminiscing.
