Christine Korang was born Oct. 14, 1921 to Mathias and Eva (Truth) Korang at the family farm in Cedar Township, Adams County, N.D. She attended grade school in Cedar Township and also attended two years of high school. Since it was during the depression she was unable to finish. She was especially proud of earning her GED in 1979. Christine was united in marriage to John Henry Koltes Jan. 22, 1941, and to this union were 3 sons, Jerry, Gary and Wayne. Christine farmed north of Bucyrus with her husband, John, for 34 years and later with her son, Wayne.
Christine loved babies and after moving into Hettinger in 1979 started a daycare in her home. She specialized in babies, caring for some of them until they started school. She was sought out for the quality of care she provided. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her flowerbeds and flower arranging and received many awards from numerous flower shows. Christine enjoyed traveling and put on many miles visiting family and friends.
She was active in her community with Holy Trinity Alter Guild, Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Club, and County Farmers Union.
Christine passed away peacefully Jan. 23, 2014 at Western Horizon Care Center.
Holding her in their fondest memories are sons, Jerome “Jerry” (Dianne) Koltes, Ponder, Texas and Wayne (Cindy) Koltes, Hettinger, N.D. Her precious grandchildren that added many sparkles to her eyes are Shari (Stuart) York, John (Charity) Koltes, Jason (Heather) Koltes, Maria (Greg) Jeffers, Debbie (Richard) Plett, Barbara (Frank) Bravo, Jennifer (Loren) Juelfs, and Ryan Koltes. Also greatly loved are her 27 great-grandchilden and 7 great great grandchildren. Christine created many memories with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John H. Koltes; son, Gerald “Gary” Koltes; brothers: Frank Korang, Mike Korang, Peter Korang, and Nickolaus Korang; and sisters, Elizabeth Stagl, Ann Scheeler, Mary Urlacher, and Agnes Myers; and brothers-in-law, George Koltes, Robert Koltes and Donald Koltes; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Korang, Freda Korang, Amelia Korang, Angeline Koltes and Lorraine Davidson.
A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reeder and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger.
