Joan was born March 1, 1934 in Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Edward and Maud Allan. She received her education in Fort Francis and had many fond memories of growing up around the woods and lakes of Ontario.
Joan married Melvin Huether Feb. 3, 1952 in Dickinson, N.D. They were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage. Joan and Melvin began their married life in Regent; later moving to Bentley, Mott and finally residing in Bismarck for the past 25 years.
Joan became a dedicated Walmart employee and enjoyed her fellow employees. Would-be shoplifters learned the hard way not to walk past Joan. She was able to visit with anybody and everyone. She was a fantastic cook and spent many hours on the hunt for pieces of crystal. In her heart she was a loyal Canadian. The Canadian maple leaf was an important symbol to her.
Joan was very proud of her entire family. She was always very excited to tell when asked, or even when not asked, how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had. She had an amazing knack in remembering every one of their birthdays.
Joan is survived by her children: Gary (Patty) Huether, Brush Prairie, Wash., Galen (Connie) Huether, Fargo, N.D., Cheryl (Roger) Looysen, Hamilton, Mont., Lori (Dan) Kelsch, Mott, N.D., Kandyce (Rocky) Gordon, Bismarck, N.D. and Tammy (Arnie) Friedt, Richardton, N.D.; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Cory Allen, and Anna Aasheim; brother-in-law, Art (Bernice) Huether and numerous nieces and nephews.
