Elnor Lucille Stocking was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Spain, S.D., the first child of Clare and Lena (Roehr) Stocking. She attended grade school in Britton, S.D. At age 12, she moved with her family to Hettinger, N.D., where her father managed a grain elevator. She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1932. She then attended college at Dickinson Normal (now Dickinson State University) for one year, returning to Hettinger where she worked at the Adams County Courthouse. She was united in marriage to Huebert Erickson Jan. 15, 1943.

Elnor and Huebert lived for a short time on a farm near Bucyrus until they moved to the Erlandson farm in Holden Township which they purchased in 1949. They farmed and ran a dairy farm selling Grade A milk to the local creamery along with raising their six children. They retired and purchased a home in Hettinger in 1983. Huebert passed away Nov. 7, 1993.

Elnor was very active in her church her entire life; teaching Sunday School and Bible school, serving on committees and being involved in the woman’s organization and was the oldest member of the Hettinger United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She was a member of the Bucyrus/Reeder Homemakers Club and after moving into town she became very involved in volunteering.

She worked as a volunteer at the Clothes Closet and was First Grade Grandma in Mrs. Buckmeier’s room for many years, as well as helping do nails at the nursing home. She did beautiful embroidery, crewel stitchery and other hand-crafted items as gifts for her family until her failing eye sight made it too difficult. While living in her apartment, she loved getting together with some of her apartment neighbor ladies to play Rummy Cube. She also enjoyed playing Canasta with a group from Women Alone. Elnor moved to Western Horizon’s Care Center in 2009.

She is survived by her children, Lynn (Mavis) Erickson, Cheyenne, Wyo., Lynda (Leon) Rustand, Dickinson, N.D., Dean (Kathy) Erickson, Bismarck, N.D., Diane (Jim) Limpp, Anaheim, Calif., Gail (Bill) Reinke, Westminster, Colo. and Glen (Linda) Erickson, Chester, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Bertsch, Mott, N.D. and Vada (Ken) Doerr, Hettinger, N.D.; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Stocking, Jamestown, N.D. and Ann Stocking, Fargo, N.D.; along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hettinger United Methodist Church.

Funeral services are pending with the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND.
