Rueben’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, with Fr. Biju Chitteth as the celebrant. Cremation will follow the Mass and inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Rueben Mellmer was born Feb. 8, 1932 at Havelock, N.D. the son of Mike and Lena (Magelky) Mellmer. He was raised and educated in the New England area.

Rueben married Alice Flaaen on Feb. 22, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Three boys, Roger, Jerry and James were born to this union and they have made New England their home since their marriage.

He enjoyed farming, but during this time he also worked for Russell Schumacher, Tri County, the Bowling Alley, Farmers Union Oil Co., and also Koffler Mfg., all of New England. Rueben belonged to different bowling leagues, and also St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Rueben is survived by his sons, Roger Mellmer, Junction City, Kan.: Jerry (Cheryl) Mellmer, New England and James (Janet Wock) Mellmer, New England; eight grandchildren, Sherri (Lonnie) Anderson, Stacy Mellmer, Kristy Mellmer, Jessica (Jamison) Sabo, Amanda (Chad) Faass, Cory Mellmer, Max Mellmer, and Amanda Mellmer; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Anderson, Trenton Anderson, Zane Sabo and Jesse Wock; his twin brother, Roy Mellmer, Dickinson; sister, Ruth Fitterer, New England; close friend, Duane K. Wobig, New England; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death Feb. 10, 2010 by his wife, Alice; his parents; brother, Raymond; sisters-in-law, Alvera and Marlys Mellmer; and brother-in-law, Wilfred Fitterer.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the New England Fire Department. Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, 1133 I-94 Business Loop EastDickinson, N. D.
