Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Jorda, age 85, of Mott, N.D., will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at 11am at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, Mott, N.D. with Fr. Charles Zins officiating.

Burial will be 11 a.m. CT on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan, N.D.

Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 1 – 7 pm followed by a Rosary and Wake Service at 7 pm, all at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.

Irene Marie Jorda was born in rural Lefor, N.D. on March 30, 1927 to Max and Frances (Reith) Mayer. She attended country school in rural Lefor. She graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, N.D.

She then attended and graduated from Western Union Teletype School in Billings, Mont. and was employed by Western Union in Seattle, Wash.

She married Peter R. Jorda on October 1, 1947 at St. Stephen’s Church rural Lefor. They resided for a short time in Mott and then purchased the Burt Tavern in Burt, N.D. in 1948. They operated it for 36 years and were engaged in farming. She remained in Burt after her husband’s death and later moved to Mott. She resided at the Good Samaritan Home in Mott until her death on February 3, 2013.

She was a member of the St. Vincent’s Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered in the CCD Program at St. Vincent’s Church and at the Good Samaritan Center.

Happy to have shared in her life are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rodney Mueller and Ruth and Cliff Goicoechea; grandchildren, Shawn Mueller, Jody (Shawn) Eman, Tobby (Kym) Goicoechea and Heidi Goicoechea; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Evan Mueller, Azuriah and Tremain Rambo and Cooper and Teagan Goicoechea; sister Clara Portscheller; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Pete; parents, Max and Frances Mayer; sisters and their husbands, Eva and Arnold Grosz, Evelyn and Wally Higgins, Elizabeth and Hank Luckey; brothers and their wives, William, Nick and Kathy, and Edward; in-laws, Markus and Catherine Jordan, Frank and Helen Jorda, John and Magdaline Jordan and Joe Jordan.
